Waggoner PTO General Meeting Minutes
September 4, 2008 8:15am
In attendance: Lesley McCoy, Barbara Crawford, Stacey Novis, Monica McNeil, Autumn Muir, Jami Howser, Lisa Ross, Gail Ewen, Colleen Smith Walters, Kirstin LeClaire, Michelle Kamolz, Heidi Williams, Doreen Garlid, Jill Cohen, Christie Patterson, Anita Weidner, Courtney Johnson, Kelly Davis, Tessa Lamb, Sheila Woodroffe, Jim Kenehan, Carol Krupinsky, Tracie Stenson, Ingrid McCann
Meeting called to order @ 8:14am, Reading Area
1. May Minutes Review & Acceptance
a. Revised title to ‘Board’ meeting, not ‘General’
b. Accepted with title correction = 1st: Stacy Novis; 2nd: Lisa Ross
2. Sock Rock:
a. Budget = $1k; over by $150
b. 2009 will still be set to $1k
c. Suggestions/Comments included: lots of socks collected; shorten time to 1.5 hours vs 2 hours; turnout was very good; kids and parents had fun
d. Voted to make this an annual event in the beginning of the year = unanimous; no opposed
3. Book Fair:
a. Profit was down $2950.23 from last year
b. Voted to take cash due to the economy= 1st= Colleen; 2nd= Stacy
4. Wishlist 2007/2008:
a. 100% went back to the teachers
b. No consumables were purchased
c. District purchased the white/smart boards
d. Site Council could have paid for some items but there was no money in the budget; per Ken Helling, if SC money used, then other things would have been compromised such as field trips, teacher requests, etc…
5. Superintendent Council Meetings:
a. Crisis Management was the topic this last month
b. Anyone is welcome to attend; up to 3 representatives from a school
c. The minutes are posted on the district’s website
6. Treasurer’s Report – Autumn Muir:
a. Reviewed Aug ’08 Report
b. Recruiting for next Treasurer:
v Position is for 2 years
v Would like to have new person in place to shadow Autumn this year
v Bookkeeping background is good to have
7. PTO Website:
a. Mr. Wallace is handling it now and will help in the future
b. Person is needed to maintain the site with posting PTO minutes, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities
c. By having a website much paper and printing cost and waste could be reduced
d. Fundraising opportunities by linking websites to ours such as Amazon and SRP rebates
e. Autumn volunteered to build and maintain
f. Committee of Kelly, Barb, Leslie and Gail to brainstorm ideas
8. Tempe Union High School District – Gail:
a. Gail recommended to have the Organizers come to next PTO meeting for explanation of upcoming vote and discussion
b. 3 ballot issues: Maintenance/Operation override; Corona to pay back state; Health & safety at other schools
v Passed in Tempe; Ahwatukee did not pass them as they did not know they are part of the Tempe Union HS District
v Gail to post information
9. Waggoner Night Out – Carol:
a. Polar Ice - exclusive to Waggoner only families! And should be a big draw due to this exclusivity.
b. $800 is budgeted for this event; $6 per person; includes admission & skates; 133 skaters are needed to breakeven
c. Volunteers needed to sell cotton candy and popcorn
10. Staff Appreciation
a. Party City will pass along a 20% discount if an officer will file a form with their location – will help reduce costs for school function supplies
b. Holiday gift for staff will be a Travel Backpack
v Donations needed; some great ideas presented so far
11. Staff Appreciation Breakfast – Tracy:
a. Theme: ‘Travel around the world’
b. Thank you notes from Ken and a teacher read during our meeting.
12. KMS Info – Doreen:
a. Invited all to attend PTO meetings -1st Wed at 8am each month
13. Turkey Trot:
a. This year is Mrs. Abbadessa’s 25th year!
