Waggoner PTO BOARD Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order @ 9:12am, WildFlower Bread Co.
1.
Approval of April Board Minutes:
a.
1st=
Lora; 2nd=Lisa; All approved
2.
$500 Gift from an Elementary School for our Flood Damage:
a.
Waggoner
teachers were asked multiple times for a list of what they needed replaced
b.
Lujan
and Dorsett both responded with bean bag chairs as theirs were damaged in the
flood

Motion
to purchase 3 bean bag chairs (covers and fillings) each for Lujan and Dorsett
and give each of the remaining teachers a gift card for the remaining balance
equally

Traci
will handle purchasing and providing the bean bag chairs to Lujan and Dorsett

Fall Fundraiser:
a.
A
new Chairperson is needed
b.
There
is a consensus that the proceeds should go to a specific purpose

Lesley
asked that we all prepare ideas for the upcoming General meeting
d.
Jill
& Courtney will investigate inexpensive/free survey possibilities for
parents to send requests electronically; or, paper surveys will go home with
each child
e.
Goal
amount was discussed at $13,500; lower than last year due to economy;
enrollment might be lower than last year- enrollment figures will be verified.

Older
Playground Bench = $1200; it’ll take one year for the City grant program assuming
it hasn’t been cut from the budget due to the economy & the state of city
finances

MPR
Acoustic panels = Acoustic features may have already been installed in the new
MPR; will need to verify; Anita will be asked to re-test the lunchroom using
her dba measuring device
4.
Girls on the Run Program:
a.
Description: 3rd-5th grade girls;
12 week program ending in a 5k run; 2x/week meetings; $150 cost per girl;
encourages healthy lifestyles; formal curriculum for program; extensive
approval process for the school to be accepted into the program; Waggoner has
been accepted; must have 1-2 coaches plus assistants; 12-15 girls max in
program; must be their #1 priority
b.
Lesley
is having a hard time recruiting coaches and assistants – many are interested
but are hesitating due to the time commitment during this school year; next
school year may not be a problem
c.
It
was thought that Waggoner had this program 4 yrs ago & had plenty of
coaches 7 assts, but did not have enough girls.
d.
Ms
Abedessa is looking into a different program entitled Chances for Children
which includes both boys and girls, would possibly be before school
e.
Lesley
will bring this program up for review next school year
5.
Miscellaneous:
a.
Next General PTO meeting is at 9am (instead of 8:15); this meeting only; due
to Lisa Gibson’s request
b.
Kindergarten Volunteer situation – Kelly Davis:
many have signed up; have not received confirmation from a couple of
people but hope to before Monday; will be establishing an ongoing Parent Group.
c.
Popsicles in the Park – PTO is welcome to attend to greet and welcome new
families

a pretty good amount at Meet the Teacher Night; not bad for people not really
knowing that these items will be for sale

will work on a display board for the office also showing a online method for
ordering

will organize a table a Curriculum Night for bag sales
